Tech TA

In order to facilitate dual delivery of classes, the university has equipped some classrooms with additional equipment to enable remote delivery of classes. We realize this setup is different so the Office of Information Technology would like to offer you a Technology TA to help you with your class. These Tech TAs are undergraduate students that will be trained and paid by OIT to assist you. Even if you are teaching completely online, you can request a Tech TA be assigned to you and your class.

We will assign you a Tech TA for the entire semester to assist. Below is the list of what a Tech TA can and won’t be able to do.

What Technology TAs can do:

  • Help faculty log into Zoom and make sure it’s recording
  • Help faculty make sure cameras are set for how they plan to use them that day
  • Make sure additional monitor show Zoom gallery of remote students
  • Monitor chat if requested by faculty member
  • Point of contact for remote students with questions
  • Trouble shoot AV issues

What Technology TAs can’t do:

  • Take attendance
  • Monitor students in a classroom
  • Take on the role of an instructor

If you wish to request a Tech TA, please fill out the form located here

If you have questions, please email teaching@rice.edu

Classrooms for testing equipment

Some classrooms, and not necessarily the one you will be teaching in, will be available starting Aug 3 for faculty to test. If you would like to have access to a classroom for testing, please email teaching@rice.edu. Learning Environments will get in touch with you to sign you up for a time slot for testing. You must sign up for a time slot in order to test. An update on classroom renovations can be found here.

Teaching Studios

In addition, we will be offering “teaching studios” for those faculty that wish to teach from a room setup for easy delivery of remote teaching. In order to request to be assigned to a room, you need to email registrar@rice.edu and let them know you’d like to use a teaching studio.
